Signed:
MARRATT
& SHORT 63 King William St LONDON BRIDGE
Box 18
x 17,5 x 13 cm, max. height 38 cm.
The lacquered brass microscope stands on a mahogany plate.
The microscope operates via a rack and pinion adjustment, with fine focus
by a short lever on the nosepiece. It has an adjustable stage on a tilting
base; it is fitted with a concave mirror to the base. The microscope has
its original mahogany box retaining its original finish, brass handle escutcheon
and lock; two objectives with two canisters signed respectively In. ¼
and In. 1 on the cap, two eye pieces, a slide drawer with some plain slides
and also a small circular three legged slide viewer. The glass of the mirror
is original, but the silvering has perished somewhat with age. Inside the
case there is a drawer with an ivory pull containing a small glass bottle
with Canada balsam and some glass slides.
