This all-brass Culpeper-type microscope is mounted on a mahogany
base with a drawer that supports three scrolled legs that in turn support
the stage. The mirror pins on a boss in the base. The circular stage has
a central aperture for illumination by transmitted light. There is also
a slide for fish-plate and phial. Three additional scrolled supports rise
from the stage and carry a circolar collar and the outer tube. Focusing
is achieved by rackwork mounted on the outer sleeve and moving the body
tube. A milled-head pinion furnishes the coarse adjustment. There is a drawtube
and the objective screws to the nosepiece.
The accessories include bull's eye, forceps, six objectives numbered from
1 to 6 (number 2, 4 and 5 have missing lenses), a lieberkuhn in its brass
box, a lieberkuhn carrier, a live box, three small boxes for fixing glasses,
six wooden slides, three small bottles ( a small bottle with brass decoration
and signed "EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE 1867" is present, too). The
mahogany case also has a drawer for accessories with an ivory pull and green
baize inside.
